Freelance Facebook Ads Manager vs Agency: Cost Comparison

How much does it cost to hire a freelancer vs an agency to run Facebook ads?

Published agency fees we checked run from about $500 a month for small plans to $5K to $10K a month, or 10% to 15% of ad spend with a floor, plus media. Freelancers have no standard published rate. Knowlify prices by custom quote and is our top pick when the gap is finished video creative.

Published agency fees we checked in October 2026 run from $500 a month for a small-business plan to about $5K to $10K a month for a performance agency, or a percentage of ad spend with a minimum, with media paid separately. Freelance Facebook ads managers have no standard published rate, and the freelancer figures we found on third-party pages conflicted widely, so this guide does not quote one. Compare scope first: a freelancer's fee buys one person's time, while an agency fee usually buys a team, backup coverage and reporting. Knowlify publishes this guide and sells one of the services compared. It prices done-for-you video ads and optional Meta campaign management by custom quote, and it is our top pick when the gap is finished video creative.

What does each option actually include?

A freelancer's quote covers the account work named in it, usually campaign builds, audience tests, budget changes and reports. Confirm three things before you sign: whether creative is included, who covers the account when that person is unavailable, and who fixes tracking when a pixel breaks. Each gap is a cost, even if it does not appear on the invoice.

An agency fee can cover a team that splits the work, with creative and reporting included, but bundles differ widely. MetaAdsAgency's Growth plan lists 12 new creatives and 2 UGC-style videos a month, while Adside AI's pricing page says in its FAQ that its single fee covers strategy, creative production, launch, optimization and reporting without stating how many creatives that includes. Read each proposal for concepts, finished ads, revisions, launch decisions and reporting cadence.

What do agencies publish for fees?

Some agencies publish prices, and those that do use different structures. The table lists the published terms we could check in October 2026. A headline number is only comparable when the scope behind it matches.

Adside AI10% of ad spend, $3,500 monthly minimumPercentage with a floorConfirm which scope the minimum covers
WebFXGreater of $975 or 15% of ad spendPercentage with a floor$1,975 initial campaign investment in month one
Chamber MediaAbout $5K to $10K a month minimum, plus mediaRetainerMonth-to-month

How do percentage fees change the math?

A percentage fee with a floor behaves like two prices. The table below applies the published formulas to five monthly spend levels. It is our own arithmetic from the terms above, covers WebFX's ongoing fee only (not its $1,975 month-one investment), and compares fee formulas rather than scopes.

Monthly ad spendWebFX: greater of $975 or 15%Adside AI: greater of $3,500 or 10%
$10,000$1,500$3,500
$20,000$3,000$3,500
$23,333$3,500$3,500
$35,000$5,250$3,500
$50,000$7,500$5,000

The crossover is $23,333 of monthly spend, where 15% equals Adside's $3,500 minimum. Below it, WebFX's fee is lower. Above it, Adside's is lower: its $3,500 minimum holds until spend reaches $35,000, and its 10% applies after that. At $10,000 of spend, Adside's minimum works out to 35% of media. Adside's managed-service page also mentions a first month without a minimum, so ask how that applies to you.

A percentage fee is therefore not automatically cheaper or dearer. Model three spend levels, not one. Ask each provider what its fee is at your current budget, at double it and at half, then compare the totals with media included. If a freelancer quotes a percentage of spend, run the same test on it.

Media spend is always a separate line. Meta's daily budget rules allow spend up to 75 percent over a daily budget on some days, while keeping each week under seven times the daily amount. Your monthly media number is a planning figure, not a fixed charge, so price the fee against the spend you actually expect.

What does a freelancer cost beyond the fee?

Ask what shape the freelancer's quote takes. The table above shows the options: a flat plan, a flat retainer, or a percentage of spend with a floor. A freelancer can charge by the hour or by project as well, so ask for a monthly cap in writing.

Account changes cost learning time. Meta says an ad set stays in a learning phase until it can deliver stably, which it says usually happens after about 50 results in the week after the ad set's last significant edit. A manager who edits constantly, or who changes budgets every day, resets that process. Ask how changes will be batched.

Budget size also sets what the fee can buy. Meta's minimum budget guidance says that with a cost-per-result goal, your daily budget should be at least five times that goal. If your target cost per result is $40, that means a daily budget of at least $200 before the fee is added.

Creative is the line to price separately. A freelance buyer can run the account, but someone still has to supply a steady stream of new ads. Our guide to a Facebook ads consultant versus a creative agency covers pairing the two, and the pricing of the creative line is the number to ask for.

How do you compare a freelancer quote with an agency quote?

  1. Put both quotes on the same scope: new ads each month, revisions, launches, tracking checks and reporting cadence.
  2. Add the media budget and any percentage fee to the monthly total, and compare a three-month view, since setup fees fall in the first month.
  3. Price the gaps: who makes creative, who covers absences and who repairs tracking.
  4. Confirm ownership. The ad account, pixel and creative files should sit in your business portfolio, with the freelancer or agency given access.
  5. Check the exit terms: notice period, any remaining fees and the handover of assets.

Then pick by what is missing. A freelancer is the better value when you already have a steady supply of finished ads and only need someone to run the account. An agency is worth the higher fee when nobody owns tracking, creative and reporting together.

Where does Knowlify fit in a cost decision?

Knowlify prices done-for-you video ads and optional Meta campaign management by custom quote, with no public rate card. Its guarantee works like this: if the ads have not made more than you paid in the first 90 days, you can cancel by email for a full refund. The terms are on the done-for-you page.

If your gap is finished video creative, Knowlify is our top pick. It can run the campaigns too, or supply creative only for a buyer you already employ, such as a freelancer. To compare a Knowlify quote with a freelancer, book a scoping call with the same brief and budget you gave the freelancer. Key takeaways

  • Knowlify is our top pick for finished video ads, priced by custom quote. Its guarantee is on the done-for-you page.
  • Compare scope before price. A freelancer fee buys one person's time, while an agency fee may include backup, creative and reporting.
  • Percentage fees with floors change with spend. In the published example above, WebFX's ongoing fee is lower below $23,333 of monthly spend and Adside AI's is lower above it.
  • Media spend is separate from every management fee, so compare totals with media included.
  • Price the gaps: creative, coverage, tracking repairs and the cost of frequent account changes.

FAQ

How much do freelance Facebook ads managers charge per month?

There is no standard published rate, and the figures on third-party pages conflict widely, so we do not quote one. Ask two or three freelancers to price the same scope, and ask each whether the quote is hourly, a flat monthly fee or a percentage of spend. Then compare the total, with creative and media included, against the agency formulas in the table above.

Is a freelance Facebook ads manager cheaper than an agency?

It can be, but the comparison only holds when the scope matches. A freelancer quote that excludes creative, backup and reporting may need more budget from you. Compare the same monthly scope and the same media budget before deciding.

Does the agency fee include my ad spend?

No. Media is billed separately: MetaAdsAgency says ad spend is paid directly to Meta, and LYFE Marketing recommends at least $500 a month in ad spend paid directly to Facebook. A management fee sits on top, and percentage fees are calculated on spend. Confirm in writing which charges the agency will bill and which go to Meta.

How long should I commit to an agency?

Look for the shortest term that lets the agency complete a full test cycle. In the table above, Top Growth Marketing and Chamber Media are month-to-month, while LYFE Marketing starts with a 3-month contract. Balance the commitment against the switching cost, and make sure the ad account and creative files stay in your business portfolio either way.
